In the heart of Merzouga Sahara, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi rise and fall like waves of a silent ocean, stands a camp born not from investment alone, but from inheritance — inheritance of land, resilience, and vision. The story begins in 1984, when the grandfather of Youssef and Said chose a different path for a seemingly forgotten corner of the desert. At the time, the land lay near Yasmina Lake, a seasonal lake that would appear and disappear with the rains.
Water was not piped. There were no pumps. No machinery. Only a rope, a bucket, and determination. He dug the first well by hand. Day after day, he pulled water from the depths using nothing more than physical strength and patience. Little by little, palm trees were planted. Then olive trees. Then vegetables. What was once barren sand slowly transformed into a living oasis. The plantation became both food security for the family and a source of modest income. Dates, olives, seasonal crops — the desert began to give back. More importantly, life returned to that corner of the Sahara.
As camel trekking began to develop in Merzouga, the plantation naturally became a stopping point. Travelers crossing the dunes of Erg Chebbi needed shade, water, and rest. The oasis offered exactly that. Camel caravans would pause beneath the palms.
Travelers would spend a night under the stars, surrounded not by emptiness — but by life cultivated by human hands. Tourism groups began visiting to witness how agriculture could survive in the Sahara. The plantation was not just farmland; it became a symbol of coexistence between desert and determination.

Four decades after the first well was dug, Youssef and Said carried their grandfather’s vision forward.
They did not want to replace the oasis.
They wanted to elevate it.
In Summer 2025, construction began on a new concept: a luxury desert camp that would respect the plantation’s roots while offering refined comfort in the middle of the dunes.
And on 1st September 2025, the doors officially opened.
The camp was designed not as an isolated project in the sand — but as an extension of the family land. Built within the plantations, surrounded by palms and facing the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi, the camp blends three elements:
Desert wilderness
Oasis agriculture
Contemporary luxury
Electricity, comfort, en-suite tents, refined dining — all placed on land that once relied on a rope and bucket.
Morocco Luxury Desert Camp is not simply accommodation.
It represents :
Three generations of vision
The transformation of sand into sustenance
The evolution from survival to hospitality
A bridge between traditional desert life and modern travel expectations
From a hand-dug well near Yasmina Lake…
To a thriving oasis…
To a luxury desert experience welcoming the world.
This is not just the history of a camp.
It is the history of a family who refused to let the desert remain empty.
Guests today enjoy sunset camel rides, fine Moroccan cuisine, and nights under vast Saharan skies — often unaware that beneath their feet lies a story that began with one man digging into dry earth in 1984.
And the story has only just begun.
